MOE Returns from Atlanta!

MOE has returned from Atlanta, Georgia! The championship matches at the Georgia Dome were amazing. MOE competed with heart, and each and everyone of us had fun there. Congratulations to each team that participated, good job everyone for making it to Atlanta! Though MOE did lose in the quarter finals, we were proud of our team and our robot, and especially when we were announced the winners of the National 2007 Chairman's Award! We all had a great time there, and can't wait to see what happens next year. See you all again!

The Philly Regional!

MOE enjoyed being back at our "home" regional, Philadelphia, held at Drexel University. There are teams in Philly that we have met for our eight years in FIRST -- for our mentors they've become old friends, and for our students, new ones. We were proud of our team's performance on the field, and in the stands and pits. We enjoyed choosing teams to present MOE awards to, and had a hard time picking the best. For our team, after winning the Website Award on Friday we were pleased to win the Regional Chairman's Award on Saturday. Now it's on to Atlanta!

The Personal Recognition Awards!

For the past three years MOE has been awarding those individuals who make FIRST events truly memorable, and yet, never seem to have any kind of recognition. For every regional that MOE attends, we make a few of these special buttons. Then, people who are believed to deserve a button by others at the regional, are presented with one. The person giving the button fills out a simple form and turns it into Pit Admin, so that after the regional, the results are published on our Web site. Check out our 2007 PRA Awards page.

MOE returns from Rochester Regional

On sunday, at about 1:00 AM, MOE returned to HQ after the long trip back from Rochester, New York. The Finger Lakes Regional Competition, held at RIT was an amazing one. Every match was great, and every team that participated brought suspense, challenge, and excitement to the matches. MOE also had a great time with the various teams that participated in the regional. We can't wait to see them again at Atlanta.

MOE Open House

Today we held an open house at MOE HQ. Families of our students came to see what the MOE students were doing, and how Firefox, our practice robot, was working. Some people who came weren't even related to our current students, but were thinking of possible future MOE team members, which is a good thing. Everyone was welcome to this open house.

Each of our sub-teams was shown to the visitors and the jobs of the groups were explained to them, and they saw the robot in action. We had great results with our open house.

A New Name is Born!

New MOE Logo!

After a very intense competition and poll, we finally were able to come to the last two names for our new robot. MOE members had a very long list of proposed names, and the top two were chosen on the 7th of February. These two were MOEzilla and ArackMOEphobia. MOEster-Chief, though a great name, hit third place. On this date, February 8, the chosen name for our robot was MOEzilla!

Also, after many logos were submitted we voted for one that seemed the best for MOE. To the right is the new MOE logo! The 8 gears represent the 8 years that the MOE team has been around. You'll be seeing this logo on our shirts and even animated on our Web site!

MOE in the Newspaper!

Today was another busy day at MOE when a reporter came in representing the five regional papers of the Community News. The subteams that make up MOE were interviewed by reporter Kevin Barrett, shown here with our Programming Team. Each of our teams will be covered in this weekly series of articles. This is definitely a nice thing, not only because our students are being featured, but also our team will be recognized throughout the community. You can visit the Community News site at www.communitypub.com

MOE at the Martin Luther King Jr. Day Celebration

MOE went out this day to celebrate MLK Day. Martin Luther King Jr. was truly an honorable man. There is no possible way to ignore this man, and what things he did that no one else could do. We demonstrated TerMOEnator, our 2006 robot, and also VEX robots. It was a fun day for MOE students, and the kids had fun too during the whole event. That's always a good thing to see.

Kick-off and Brainstorming!

2006 is over, and the new year is here. With a new game put into play, and the challenge that this new game is expected to bring, MOE is getting ready for the new world that lies ahead. The competition is something to truly look forward to. While working on our robot, we're also figuring out a name for it, and a few good ones have come up already. We look forward to seeing all the teams at future competitions. Good luck to everyone out there!

The MOE Web Team has also begun to think about how to enhance our website for greater results when it comes to your viewing pleasure. More content will be added for the new year, so continue to visit.

Chairman's Award Team

At the Philadelphia Regional, MOEbius was let loose again and it performed very well. It capped smoothly, and needed only a little bit of fixing. Members helped out other teams in their pits and gave teams awards. We were jumping for joy when we won the Regional Chairman's Award. We were proud that our Pit Lord (Lou Rosanio) was presented with the Regional Woodie Flowers Award. We came up as the second seed in the competition and won the Regional Championship.

MOEbius in Action

At the Pittsburgh Regional, MOEbius performed better than we even hoped it would. It ran smoothly, capped well and did not break down at all during the whole competition. Our team members had enthusiastically helped other teams in the pits that were having trouble with their robot and gave out awards to teams. We were very happy when we became the number one seed and went all the way to the finals. We also brought home the Kleiner Perkins Caufield & Byers Entrepreneurship Award and Johnson & Johnson Sportsmanship Award. The team (especially the web team) was extremely happy when we recieved the regional Website Award.

Delaware Governor Minner holding MOE shirt During the Delaware Governor's regularly scheduled community interaction sessions, First State Robotics, Inc. explained the educational initiatives that they have active in the state. Governor Minner was also asked to speak during opening ceremonies at next season's First State FIRST LEGO League event. The probability is high that, if her schedule allows, she may join us. In the photo, Governor Minner shows off a MOE Robotics shirt during this visit with John Larock, MOE's leader.
